My six-year-long volunteer experience at Hawthorne Elementary School in Missoula, Montana is verified by the letter found at http://www.box.net/shared/e4v6jyo27r.
During my time at Hawthorne, I volunteered in many ways: as a classroom parent in charge of organizing parties, as a volunteer who facilitated reading groups or math assignments, as a field trip escort, as a PTA president and treasurer, and as a liaison between Families First and the school, to name a few.
I enjoyed my time at Hawthorne as a parent, and learned many valuable skills for my future as an educator.

My experience volunteering at the Missoula Ronald McDonald House can be verified by the letter found at http://www.box.net/shared/i7a9rn5g3ehaktbpixlp.
My time at RMH is valuable for several reasons. Not only do I get to meet many amazing families that allow me to be a part of very trying times in their lives, but I am also able to share this volunteer experience with my daughter. Service is invaluable, and instilling the habit early is one way to ensure that young people understand that they can make a difference in this world. Through RMH, the Humane Society of Western Montana, and many Campus Corps service days, my daughter and I have been able to contribute to our community, and she has had meaningful experiences.
Through my various volunteer experiences, I have been able to assist families of varying socioeconomic statuses, children with varying abilities and needs, and people from a variety of backgrounds. These experiences have left me with a greater understanding of members of my community, and a deep sense of gratitude for having the ability to help others. It is through these acts that I gain more than I give.
"The willingness to share does not make one charitable; it makes one free." ~Robert Brault
This blog will document my voyage into student teaching, and serve as my Professional Development Portfolio for the University of Montana Teacher Education Program. It will also serve as a place for potential administrators to view my past experiences.
